La ChautagneChautagne
WinesThe region is also renowned for its vineyards, which have developed on sunny hillsides ideal for producing red and white wines. This increasingly recognized production has been highlighted by the Vignobles & Découvertes label for several years. Awards have acknowledged the efforts made by Chautagne winemakers to produce high-quality vintages. The vineyard stretches between Chindrieux and Motz, along the heights that follow the departmental road. A themed trail, “the vineyard trail,” also showcases the work of the winemaker on the heights of Motz.
To get a great overview of the Chautagne vineyard and wine in general, the Caveau de Chautagne is the best place to immerse yourself: the sensory journey allows visitors to explore several rooms, including one where they can smell the dominant notes of certain grape varieties. It’s an activity to enjoy with family or friends!
Slow tourism

After a few kilometers of strolling, you can stop in Chanaz, a small village bordered by the Savière Canal, a major tourist attraction in Chautagne. One thing is certain, you’ll definitely want to come back for another visit!
Chautagne also offers wonderful surprises and sites to discover, such as the Espace Sport et Nature du Fier located in Motz. A rich historical heritage
Chautagne, a border territory between the Kingdom of Italy and FranceChautagne’s historical aspect is marked by Hautecombe Abbey, the most visited site in the department. It stands as a witness to the history of Savoy and the Kingdom of Italy, serving as a prominent burial place for kings and queens. Only the church is accessible to the public, with audio guides available in several languages. The visit can also be combined with a boat cruise from Aix-les-Bains, arriving on the waters to give an even more impressive view of this edifice.
Numerous traces of the past are visible in the landscape, with castles, chapels, and other oratories. Themed tours are also offered during the season by heritage guides, especially focusing on Chanaz, the round church of Saint Pierre de Curtille, and the pile-dwelling sites of Châtillon.
